2025 Australian macadamia crop forecast delayed due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred

The 2025 Australian macadamia crop is expected to be impacted by severe weather conditions following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, the Australian Macadamia Society (AMS) announced today.

AMS CEO Clare Hamilton-Bate said key growing regions experienced damaging winds, heavy rainfall and flooding, but it is too early to quantify the full impact.

“It has been a challenging few days for many growers. The priority now is ensuring safety, followed by orchard clean-up and assessing crop loss and orchard damage as soon as conditions allow,” Ms Hamilton-Bate said.

The AMS had planned to release its first 2025 crop forecast last week, projecting a 5% year-on-year increase to 56,890 tonnes in-shell at 3.5% moisture (61,000 tonnes at 10% moisture). However, this forecast will now be reviewed in light of cyclone-related damage, with an updated figure to be released within two weeks.
